JWD Art Space is pleased to present ‘The Mansion of Plates’, a solo exhibition by Yuree Kensaku. Her latest works explore women’s struggles and resilience through cultural myths, folklore, and archetypes. With her vibrant anime-inspired style, she examines how stories from history and popular culture both represent and stereotype women. Figures like ghosts, monsters, and antiheroes serve as nuanced allegories of social and cultural complexities.

Her subjects span tragically iconic women from Okiku in Japanese horror to Medusa, Mae Nak, and persecuted witches, alongside modern icons like Lisa from Blackpink and Sailor Moon’s heroines. Kensaku critiques storytelling’s biases, transforming these figures into enduring symbols of empowerment and resistance.

Yuree Kensaku (Born 1979, Thailand) graduated from the Department of Fine Arts, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Bangkok University. A Thai-Japanese artist, she has gained international recognition in the contemporary art scene for her vibrant and thought-provoking works. She works across multiple mediums, including painting, design, street art, animation, music, live performance and sculpture. Her art is characterized by bright, cartoon-like visuals that often conceal deeper critiques of society, politics, philosophy, and the human condition, addressing themes such as environmental concerns and the darker sides of humanity.
